Ant farm for a 6-year-old – good idea or bad idea?

I have a 6 1/2 year old cousin, and he LOVES bugs! I try to get him toys that are semi-educational. Is he too young for an ant farm? Or is it a good gift idea?

I think it is a great idea. I had one when I was younger, and loved it. Now they have neat ones where instead of sand, the ants burrow through tinted clear gel, so your cousin will be able to see them from any angle.

I think it’s a cool idea. As long as he knows not to open it and let all the ants out. Maybe you should talk to his parents first and see if they would allow him to have a gift like that in their house.

It’s very educational to see how industrious they are! Just put it in a place where it won’t get knocked over and broken, LOL!! Maybe next year when he’s a little bigger a beekeepers outfit might be fun!

It’s a good idea. It would help him get even more interested into bugs.
