Stopping Extravagant Christmas gift giving?

funrdhdpeach asked:

Does anyone have any decent, not snotty ideas on how to promote a less extravagant holiday this year? My in-laws (bless their hearts) insist on spending a large amount of money on each of us every year, including our 2 kids. While I am VERY greatful, I feel the money could be put to better use, like donating to a charitable cause (my first choice) or putting money into a savings account or saving bonds for our kids. While we are not rich by any means, we are able to afford the things we need and ocassionally even splurge on things we want. Our kids do not need more clothes or more toys, and suggestions for educational items are usually thrown by the wayside. I do not want to be rude or cause any sour feelings over the holidays. My side of the family has adopted a no-gift giving rule, and we are all much happier (and less stressed) ever since starting this. Our gift to each other is our presence, not our presents. Any Positive suggestions? Please don’t be rude!

How do I get my 12 month old to stop hitting and throwing things? He laughs and thinks it is funny?

scillie99 asked:

My 12 month old thinks the hitting and throwing toys is funny. It is bad when he does it to people. He thinks it is so fun and starts to laugh and continue to hit. I tried time out so many times and he isn’t learning. I tried to talk to him, but he is only 12 months and doesn’t understand. Help :(
I treat him like he is a kid and I don’t act as if he is my friend. I make sure that he knows I am his mommy and parent and I don’t TALK to him like he is an adult. I am a good parent and I don’t need to step it up, I just need some assistance with him learning this new behavior and not to feel insulted.

What games do you do with your toddler? Are there other things you enjoy doing with them?

leanne asked:

My almost 3 year old gets bored with me sometimes and I’m wondering if other parents have this problem?! I play play-doh, video games, hideseek, toys, cars, coloring, reading, puzzels, play on the computer on noggin or nickjr, play with electronic memory match toys… he does enjoy tv shows too, but educational like blues clues, diego, wonder pets, backyardigans, etc..

we’ll go outside and he’ll ride his bike, play in the sandbox, recently go in the pool, play with his ball, water plants, swing, play baseball, hulahoop, frisbie and jump on the trampoline with me..

I just dont have any NEW/DIFFERENT ideas.. What do you and your toddler do during the day at home?Is there something he/she likes the most?Is there something you enjoy the most? Are there any activities that you would recommend the most? Why?
well I let my son choose if he wants to play with me or not..and sometimes he likes to pretend..but Im more just curious at what other parents do with their kids vs me ..I dont really know anyone else with kids the same age as my son …this is more like a survey and suggestion question..then a i need help question..
My son will be 3 years old July 9th
